本實驗室以知識管理為主要研究目標，不僅全力從事學術研究，並且以開發的系統提供各項知識管理服務，滿足各個領域在知識管理上的需求，可說是一個理論與實作兼備的研究群組。

目前以主要研究方向包括搜尋引擎的各項研究，如：搜尋結果的改進(precision enhancement)與分群(serch result clustering)，索引效率與精確度的改進(indexing distillation)和主題搜尋(focus crawle)等議題，和生物資訊管理方面議題，如：基因序列的索引與搜尋技術(Gene Sequence indexing and searching)，生物知識架構的資訊擷取與本體知識建構與管理(Information Extraction and management on Gene ontology)
