Current Research

Dr. Lu received Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at National Chiao Tung University in November, 2003. Since February, 2004 he joined the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, and is currently an assistant professor. His current research interests include Web Mining, Text Mining, Information Retrieval, Cross-Language Information Retrieval, Natural Language Processing, Machine Translation, Digital Libraries, and Medical Knowledge Discovery.

Previous Research

He has worked at Institute of Information Science (IIS), Academia Sinica, from August, 1999 to January, 2004, under the supervision of Dr. Lee-Feng Chien (簡立峰) who leads the Web Knowledge Discovery (WKD) Lab. He focused on exploring multilingual Web resources and Web mining techniques to enhance IR and NLP techniques. His past research works include term-translation extraction, probabilistic translation model, Web mining, and cross-language information retrieval. He and Dr. Chien have proposed several innovative Web mining approaches to exploring diverse huge amounts of Web data resources for discovery of multilingual translation knowledge, such as anchor-text-mining and search-result-mining. A series of interesting works here have been published in ACM Transactions on Asian Language Information Processing, and ACM Transactions on Information Systems (to appear in April, 2004), etc. Also, they have developed a practical system for term translation and cross-language Web search, called LiveTrans (Chinese introductions to LiveTrans).
